Benefits of a Home Insulation Upgrade

You don't need to have a degree in thermodynamics to know that heat always moves from more to less. In the wintertime, heat naturally moves from inside your home to outside of it. During hot summer months, heat tends to travel in the opposite way, moving inside the house to make your home uncomfortably hot. Installing insulation saves energy and money by slowing the flow of heat into your home. Below are a few important facts that will help you understand how to save energy and money by improving your home's insulation.

The higher the R-value, the better. There are many different home insulation materials, but all types of insulation are measured according to their resistance to heat flow, or R-value. Fiberglass batt insulation, for example, has a R-value of about R-3.6 per inch while rigid foam can range anywhere from R-4 to R-7 per inch. To achieve the higher "target" R-values recommended by the U.S. Dept. of Energy, it will be necessary to install thicker layers of insulation.

Installing insulation correctly is critical. For any type of insulation to achieve its rated R-value, it must be properly installed by a trained contractor. When insulation is compressed, moist or installed with gaps or "voids," its performance drops significantly.

We proudly service both sides of the river, St. Louis, Ballwin, Florissant, Belleville, Chesterfield, East St. Louis, Fenton, Granite City, Arnold, Edwardsville, Alton, O Fallon, Collinsville, Eureka, Mount Vernon, Centralia, Imperial, Troy, Maryland Heights and many other surrounding areas.

Insulation and air-sealing go together. Sealing leaks in the "building envelope" is an important energy-saving step that should be done along with any insulation upgrade. Without effective air-sealing, heat can move by convection through most types of insulation, nullifying its energy-saving value.

Spray foam sealing and insulation. Conditioned air from the living space below can leak into the attic through numerous gaps around wiring and plumbing lines. Dr. Energy Saver St. Louis uses spray foam to seal these openings, preventing air leakage in your home.

It is malpractice to install insulation without first sealing any energy-wasting leaks. Sealing attic leaks before installing new attic insulation is especially important.

Existing insulation often needs to be moved or shifted in order to uncover attic air leaks. Dr. Energy Saver can also perform a test to discover where air and heat are leaking into an attic.

After detection comes correction. Dr. Energy Saver uses the most up-to-date materials (including sealants, caps to fit over can lights, and different types of spray foam) to perform all of their air-sealing work.

To Whom It May Concern, I want to nominate Dr Energy Saver STL for Best in Quality. When we moved into our home 9 years ago, our energy budget bill was over $300 a month. We made the typical changes home owners make: change light bulbs to CFL, change temperature in the home depending on occupancy, etc. This reduce our monthly budget bill to ~$250-275. It wasn't until DR Engery Saver STL conducted a home energy audit and completed the recommended work that we saw a huge reduction in our monthly energy bill (currently budget monthly billing $149) and an increase in our comfort level. The 2d story is cooler in the summer without the A/C running constantly. Our finished basement is warmer in the fall/winter months. The Dr Energy Saver STL workers were not only professional, friendly and courteous but they also cleaned up after work completion. As a homeowner, I appreciate high quality workmanship and service. As a homeowner, I love not cleaning up a mess after someone else. I highly recommend Dr Energy Saver STL for the Best In Quality Award. Sincerely, Traci S., Glen Carbon, IL

The "best" insulation depends on installation requirements. There's no such thing as the perfect insulation. Because of different handling, installation and performance characteristics, one type of insulation is likely to perform better than another in a given application. The cost of different types of insulation also varies. Dr. Energy Saver has the experience and expertise to recommend and install the right insulation for the application. We aim for cost-effective, top-performing insulation.
